This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the state of constitutionalism in Uganda for the month of August 2024. It examines key cases, incidents, and developments through a constitutional lens, highlighting questions of constitutional violations and their broader implications for the rule of law, good governance, and, most critically, human rights. The report focuses on five significant issues that tested Uganda's constitutional integrity in August: the legality of presidential directives, the constitutional and human rights impact of the Kiteezi landfill disaster, General Muhoozi’s social media activity, the right to protest, and the court ruling on service awards. While this report does not provide extensive recommendations, it sheds light on the necessary steps to strengthen constitutionalism and uphold democratic principles in Uganda.
