Homelessness and Modern Slavery

Homelessness in Uganda is more than sleeping on verandahs. It encompasses children on the streets, families in slums, and women trapped in abuse with no escape. Homelessness is a pipeline to forced begging, labor and sexual exploitation and crime.

Homelessness forces people into desperation thus making them an easy target for slavery. However, Government must provide safe shelters and end criminalizing homelessness. Civil society can offer job training and legal aid while employers can create safe job opportunities.
